Who we are

Brigdu exists to encourage and foster mental & emotional wellbeing, and we do this through workshops and courses designed for everyone — from creative writing workshops and women’s circles to children’s storypainting sessions, we invite expression and connection in ways that allow everyone to be completely and comfortably themselves.

Founded by Seanín Hughes, an Irish writer and editor from Northern Ireland, Brigdu arose when years of experience with various vulnerabilities collided with her creative drive and compulsion to offer some good in an otherwise challenging and bewildering world. As a neurodivergent woman, carer and mother of four, Seanín is deeply familiar with autism, ADHD, physical disability, mental health difficulties, complex trauma, poverty and domestic abuse. These are the issues that matter to her most.

Seanín has been writing for almost a decade and has published two short collections of poetry — Little Deaths (Smithereens Press, 2019) and She, Shapeshifter (Broken Sleep Books, 2022). She is the delighted recipient of an Arts Council Northern Ireland SIAP award for her forthcoming debut short story collection, Beast Pastiche, and is a professional member of the Irish Writers Centre.
